Energy proficient cars versus gas guzzling cars of the past

Up until the 21st century resources have been plentiful. Since, the dawn of the automobile, oil has been the commodity to have. The world has practically run on oil. However, as scientist have discovered over the past twenty years, oil is not as abundant as though of. According to BP’s Statistical Review of World Energy, we still have 1,333 billion barrels out there to pump, enough for 40 years at current usage (William, 2010). As oil decreases, the price of oil increases basic supply and demand law. The purpose of this paper is to discuss and compare whether or not cars should be more efficient for the consumer, the benefits of a cost efficient car, and the longevity of an energy efficient car versus a gas guzzler.

Since the invention of the automobile oil has been a huge factor to its operations. The US, on average, uses approximately 20 million barrels of oil a day, which basically is about a quarter of the world’s oil supply resulting in 25% of the world’s carbon emissions (Smejek, 2011). Gas Guzzlers are cars that are 100% dependent on oil, without oil and gas their combustion engine would not operate. However Energy efficient engines are not fully dependent upon...
