This week’s in class assignment:

Case Project 9-1

1. Read through and follow the instructions in Case Project 9-1 starting on Pg 439 of the textbook.

2. Answer the questions at the end of the steps.

Discontinue the use of the ISP's public address space for employees PC's, and install a DHCP server using private address space. Then configure the internet router to one of the ISP's public addresses.

Case Project 9-2

1. Read through and follow the instructions in Case Project 9-2 starting on Pg 440 of the textbook.

2. Answer the questions at the end of the steps.

I’d say Microsoft Exchange.

IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) - keeps the messages on server indefinately. It does not use much bandwidth

SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) - to send emails.

POP (Post Office Protocol 3) : Allows for download of messages if required. It can also keep messages of the mail server but uses more bandwidth than IMAP

HTTP/HTTPS protocol - allows for use of webmail so users can read their mail using an Internet connection

Ports needed: POP3 - port 110, IMAP - port 143.,IMAP SSL (IMAPS if security is a concern) – port 993, SMTP - port 25, HTTP - port 80, HTTPS (if security is a concern) - port 443

Location of mail server should be central office. The server will have a static public IP address assigned from the ISP.
