3 items I disagreed with - I’ll try and be as objective as possible.

Romney

1. He kept stating that he would not enact a tax cut that adds to the deficit. This statement seems a little vague, and I was under the impression that Romney doesn’t agree with upper-class Americans paying a higher percentage in taxes. In that sense, he would be cutting taxes by replacing Obama’s tax policies with his own. These cuts won’t add to the deficit if enough government spending is cut to make up for it, but overall, this declaration seems like something he will regret saying if elected President. It reminds me of the “Read my lips…no new taxes” line from Bush Sr.

2. He claims to make up for tax cuts by closing the loopholes. Romney needs to specify what he means by this statement. Without clarifying his strategy, he invites the possibility of the following: 1) he doesn’t have confidence in the plan; 2) he’s worried he will lose votes if he reveals the plan or 3) he doesn’t have a plan. Candidates who won’t go into specifics with their policies invite suspicion.

3. He will cut government programs that are not worth the borrowed money from China. He added that one of these programs would be PBS, which includes shows like Sesame Street. I think he made a big mistake mentioning Big Bird because now he is associated with wanting to end one of the most treasured, educational children’s shows of all time. People associate Big Bird with warm, fuzzy memories, and now Facebook is covered with images of Big Bird with a target on his head. Being associating with killing Big Bird is not going to help his popularity.

Side note - Favorite line of the night: (Romney) Look I’ve been in business for 25 years and I have no idea what you’re talking about.

Obama

1. He lowered taxes for 98% of families. This implies that only 2% of families are considered upper class since Obama agrees with higher taxes for the wealthy. 2% seems like a low estimate.

2. He said he would make sure everyone...
