A Unique Place

As a kid our family visited a park called McKinney Falls. The area that we made camp was a lush forest clearing which was surround on three sides by oak and fern trees, and a river on fourth side. If you went down stream past three jutting rocks you would run into the most spectacular sight you have ever seen. Past the three rocks was a forty foot three tiered waterfall that flowed into a crystal clear basin. The view looking down was beautiful. Scattered through the park was a maze of bike trails. Whenever you would go on one you would never know what end of the park you would end up on but that was the thrill and excitement of going on them. The park itself was a rare gem in nature with the water fall and the natural caves and cliffs the place was just a place of rare beauty.

Ten years had passed since I had last been to that wonderful place. When I arrived at the check in station I could already tell that things had changed. The station its self was in shambles the door was barely on its hinges and the man behind the counter was just as bad. After a quick chat with the gentleman I learned that the parks ownership had changed a quite few times and money was sparse. On the ride up to our old camping spot I noticed things just weren’t quite the same. The roads where un-kept the forest seemed daunting to even look at. When I arrived at the clearing well I don’t even know if you could call it a clearing the grass had grown up to about waist deep and it felt like the forest had closed in on it. I figured the bike trails would still at least be there. After hour of searching I finally stumbled upon one and the only way of know was an old sign that read hike and bike. The trails had grown up to be nothing more than part of the already overwhelming forest. My last and final stop was the waterfall. As I trekked to spot overlooking the whole scene I knew for sure that that that beautiful picture that had been in my head would be ruined. As I stumbled up...
