MBA Decision

1. How does Ben’s age affect his decision to get an MBA?

In dealing with the continuation of study, age can be an important factor. Ben is now 28 years of age and is looking to pursue an MBA. By the time he finishes with his degree he will be 30 or 31 years of age, so, if Ben believes that he will continue working for 40 years after receiving his MBA it will put him at about 70 to 71 years of age before he retires. Age can also affect his decision to obtain an MBA if he is not disciplined enough to finish what he starts. Since he has already obtained his Bachelor degree in Finance, we would have to assume that he is disciplined enough.

2. What other, perhaps nonquantifiable factors, affect Ben’s decision to get an MBA?

Ben has already worked for East Coast Yachts for five years, so, he has the experience that most businesses are looking for when one graduates with an MBA. Most businesses want the candidate to have at least two years of experience when looking for a managerial position. Family situation is another factor that may affect Ben’s decision to continue with his education. If he is married, he will need the support of the family while he is in college; family support as well as monetary support, since he will not be working while taking classes.

Another factor would be his enthusiasm to continue his education. He must have the motivation to study; without the motivation to study, he may as well continue with the job he is doing now with East Coast Yachts. So, we can see that he has the experience needed to land the right job after graduation and the motivation to study, what would be helpful would to know what his family situation is at the time of his going back to school; is he single or is he married with a family?
