Learning Team Reflection Week 5

In this week’s team discussion, we mulled over topics specific to chapter 18 in the text. These topics were most prevalent in our team final project, so we felt most at ease discussing planned change, and resistance to change.

Planned change, we decided, was most easily described as a specific organization implementing new procedures or protocol for employees to follow. Topics of discussion included how an organization could transition the company from the current ways of doing things to a new, more efficient way that would in turn increase productivity of employees and the organization as a whole. (Robbins & Judge, 2011)

Resistance to change was a little more involved. This deals with employees and their lack of willingness to support an environmental or procedural change in the workplace. Some resist due to habit. It has always been done this way, why does it need to be done that way now? Also fear of the unknown can be cause for resistance. Not knowing that they will be able to use the new system, or how this new system will affect their daily work routine are two examples. Employees need to be reassured that procedures are put into place to make a day’s work smoother, and to make specific tasks easier to accomplish, making them more productive. (Robbins & Judge, 2011)

Each of us had slightly different approaches to these topics as we each work in such different environments. From restaurant to military, the backgrounds from which we come professionally are drastically different from one another, however we did settle on one thing. Change is change. Whether planned or not, whether reasons for resistance are the same, the change that is brought into each of our places of work is brought in with the intention to better our work environment, simplify our job duties, and aid in our...
