Essay #2 Ethnicity

Word Count

Ethnicity

Muslims, the followers of the Islamic religion combine to form the second largest religion practiced in the world. The ethnicity of Muslims around the world is very broad. For the purpose of this essay, attention should be directed to a radical form of Islam. There are two examples of Muslims to discuss here. In this instance I will title them conservative Muslims and radical Muslims. Their differences are found in the interpretations of the Quran. A conservative Muslim is a citizen who values his beliefs and in this case, stands for an open interpretation of the Quran that leads to equality of gender. They interact with their surrounding communities and obey the laws that are necessary to govern a free society. In recent years the radical movement of Islam has made many Americans feel perturbed about their freedom and for the purpose of this essay discussion of radical Islam, especially its oppression of women, have made it the damaging belief system across the world.

In Saudi Arabia an Islamic Monarchy is set up in which the people are governed by religious beliefs. The Quran is literally their governing body and this form of Islam is usually referred to as Wahhabi. In Iran, The Sudan, Pakistan and Afghanistan, this form of Islam has become more prevailing, especially in Afghanistan where the Taliban has control over their people. In Afghanistan, images of women wearing stifling burqas, long gowns that cover their heads, faces, and bodies and seriously limit and impair their vision, became symbolic of life under the Taliban. In Saudi Arabia women ... who walk unaccompanied, or are in the company of a man who is neither their husband nor a close relative, are at risk of arrest on suspicion of prostitution or other 'moral' offences.(Isalm Oppresses Women)
