Woman’s Rights

During history, woman had a hard time claiming their role as a woman in gaining their right for independence and equal rights. In that time it has always been hard on woman because men always over ruled woman. Women have always been working beside their husbands for generations. They work side by side on their farms and family stores.
One of the main events that are very important during this time for woman was The Civil War. It impacted their lives in some ways that will never be forgotten. Even though the men were off to war, women had to fight at home to work. Women were left behind to carry out the men duties at home. Many woman of the South had to take on the work of the slaves. Some saw War as an opportunity to be leaders in the fight for abolition and equality.
Many women also had important rules during this time also. Some of these include: they had to give their sons, husbands, and fathers to the war. Some even disguised themselves as men and served in both the Union and Confederate Armies. Some were messengers, and spies for both sides. Over 3,000 Union women became unpaid nurses during the conflict. They provided aid and comfort to the sick and wounded soldiers. They also fought for the cases that men were unable and possibly unwilling to fight for.
Clara Barton was a lady who volunteered as a nurse during the Civil War and she is known to start the American Red Cross. She was really organized and hard working. She collected and delivered supplies to northern troops around Washington, D.C and she was a teacher who ran her own school at age twenty. Later on she was then recognized to work for the government in Washington D.C which was a very big deal for a woman in those days. After the war she went on and continued with the American Red Cross and devoted the rest of her life to it.
Another woman was named Jenny Wade (really...
