Two months before graduating high school police officers arrested Ignacio Perez for been part of a robbery on the night of March 12, 2001 and as a result Ignacio was unable to graduate. Before the robbery incident, he was a very positive person and a great student with a promising bright future.

As his trial proceeded, Ignacio Perez was sentenced to four years in prison with the option of

coming out in three years on probation for good behavior. He began his sentence and as the days progressed he soon came to realize how his life was being diversely affected by his bad decisions. He realized that his “friends” were actually not true friends, and that the people he most dearly loved he had hurt the most.

Months after his incarceration he set his mind to overcome adversity by taking the initiative of studying, completing his GED and taking college courses while being in prison. His goal was to do everything in his power to assure that this would be the first and last time in prison.

While been in prison help him realized that all the people he considered his friends were nothing but trouble in his life. Ignacio learned to be self-discipline and to learn from his mistakes to better himself. He reached his objective and was delivered from prison for good behavior.

He was very aware of all the mistakes he committed in his life and was willing to do anything and everything to prevent the same mistakes again. He begun to go to college to develop his potentials and intellectuals he once left behind. It did not take long for him to apply his learning ability, and after four year of hard work and dedication he completed his academic career. Ignacio now has a professional career and dedicates time to help young teenagers to stay away from drugs and trouble. He has taught them that overcoming problems is crucial to succeeding in life, that even when you feel that the world has turned against you there is still hope and you should never stop trying.
