Thanksgiving Family Traditions

I always know its thanksgiving when I wake up to the smell of turkey roasting in my grandpa’s oven. I usually get up around 8:00 but when I’m at my grandpas I get up when he yells or when I smell food. I get up out of bed and I go in the bathroom and brush my hair and my teeth then head down stairs. My cousin Marie and I are always the last ones to get up everyone else is usually up already. Then I walk into the kitchen and smell all the food being made for lunch and dinner and my mouth starts to water. I walk over to the oven and look in the little tiny window to see what’s inside. When I wake up to the smell of turkey roasting I know its thanksgiving.

Then I walk over to the island where my aunt is making pumpkin bars and pumpkin pie and I always try and steal one but she usually catches me, then I get kicked out of the kitchen. I walk into the living room and my mom tells me to go upstairs and take a shower and get ready for the day. So I walk upstairs and into the bathroom then I take my shower and get ready for the day like my mom asked. I smell the good food once again and I know lunch is almost ready and can’t wait to devour it. Sitting at the table we all say grace and thank God for the wonderful food we have. There are so many things to eat and drink on the table. For example there’s, turkey, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, stuffing, ham, cranberries which are icky and there are rolls and my grandma’s green bean casserole recipe. Everyone starts diving in for what they want sometimes a little food fight breaks out from all the grabbing, scooping, and pouring.

While we are eating it’s a family tradition to talk about poop. I really don’t know how it comes up into conversation but when it does you can’t get my family to stop. After we are all done the grandkids have to clean up and wash the dishes because the adults made the food which is only fair. In the kitchen my cousins are typically...
