Chrysanthemums (pretty flowers)

Valley: there’s no scape, no exit. She’s in this place not emotionally, physically.

She raises her flowers as her children. She doesn’t have any children and she’s 35 years old. She also has fence around her flowers.

Henry (her husband) is so busy and he doesn’t treat her the way he’s supposed to do.

Fence: symbol of separation.

Henry said “good, good for you”: means they don’t share their things. Otherwise he would say “good for us”.

She covers her hands: means she doesn’t feel anything, any affection.

The way she dresses is like how a man dresses. She’s more like a man than a woman.

Henry said, “I wish u could do something in the farm”: means separation again.

Down: journey of life, separation.

Tinker: handyman, old man, crooked.

She’s on the porch and there’s fence around her property. She only comes to the fence behind the fence and there’s separation again.

She says “I can do as much good as you can if not better”: because she is like a man.

When the Tinker says “Btw, I like your chrysanthemums”: she takes off her hat and by that she’s starting to become like a woman and she’s taking off her protection from manly to feminine.

She gives him flower in the pot: means she gave him her emotion.

She‘s starting to talk about her feelings and sexual desire to him. Now she goes home and she feels like a woman and she showers. She keeps scrubbing herself because she wants to clean her thoughts.

She wears sexy underwear and fixes her hair. When her husband sees her, he says ”nice”! so it kinda brought her back to the reality. She felt he treats her like a man still.

They drove down the road and she sees the pot and the flowers and she felt he betrayed her and he lied.

Now she talks about fight and how men hit each other because she’s angry with men. She thinks all the men like tinker and her husband betrayed her. But at the end of the night she was back to old feelings and she...
