Culture vs. Biology

Biology is an aspect of life that we cannot change or manage. The dilemma is, where does culture actually originate from? Culture is the direct outcome of the environment in which it’s located. It has been shaped by different environments all throughout the world over time. Aside from genetics, geography also affects the ways in which we live our day to day lives. Geography also creates our customs, beliefs and traditions (Diamond 236). According to Diamond, he believes that culture is the reason for many of our differences. Barnett and Rivers also back up this statement by explaining that throughout history, the environment and lifestyles have changed accordingly, but our DNA has not (Barnett and River 47). This is evidence which demonstrates the environment is what's accountable for most of the differences in males and females.

Although there is a lot to discuss about cultural and environmental forces that shape our lives, there is also evidence that displays these forces originate from biology; it is a chain reaction. Biologically, both males and females have tendencies to behave in certain ways. These biases are built within, but what activates them is the environment. Therefore if culture is a creation of the environment, then culture transports about these behavioral transformations. This is a pattern that moves from biology to culture, proving there is evidence to support both notions,mutually .

When conducting studies about male and female modifications, researchers have not only considered culture and biology, but individual differences as well. For example, you would not be able to tell the difference between and male or female due to their size or height. Yes, in ordinary circumstances males are bigger than females, but it is also true that certain females can be larger than males.
