Defense Closing Statement

Your honor, may I approach the jury? Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, may it please the court, opposing counsel, my name is James White Jr. and these are my co-counsel Gia Heard and Jesus De La Cruz. Today we are here to represent our client, Bracy Webb II. The prosecution has failed today and they know it. They want you to believe my client, Bracy Webb II, is guilty, but you know the ONLY verdict to give is NOT guilty. We have offered more than enough evidence to show you that my client, Bracy Webb II, did not commit this crime.

Let’s review my witnesses today and you too will see my client, Bracy Webb II, is innocent. First you heard from one of the football players, Rudy Rodriguez, who told you that many on the football team did not like Joe Stevenson. They did not like his changed behavior and how he treated them badly. My client’s mother, Fatima Garcia, told you that she picked up Bracy Webb II at the house and stated that he missed the bus and walked home. My client’s girlfriend, Kayla Houston, told you that my client, Bracy Webb II, came to her locker before he left school and told her that he was missing practice to meet his mom for a dentist appointment. Then you heard from my client’s neighbor that is on the prosecution, Jessica Rodriguez, who saw him home around 4 p.m. Next, an eyewitness in the boy’s locker room, Abraam Salayez, said he went into the locker room and saw Joe Stevenson arguing with some guy. He did not see the guy, but heard them shouting at each other. He immediately left because he felt it looked like it would become violent. Bus rider, Rolando Castaneda, told you that he saw my client running towards the bus and even shouted to the driver to wait for him, but the driver did not hear and left my client. Finally, you heard from my client, Bracy Webb II, who told you that he did not have bad feelings towards Joe Steven. He even helped him learn the football plays. He did not kill Joe...
