Juvenile Crime Statistics

The future of our beautiful country lies within the hands of our youth. Analyzing juvenile criminal activity is of upmost importance to keep a grasp on crime trends. With our youth committing crimes at such young ages the future of our country is at stake. As the senior generation we must find trends and make effort to break these trends before it becomes too late.

Between the years 2007 and 2008 juvenile crime made a decrease of 3%. With this decrease the amount of violent crimes dropped 2%. These drops although small are very encouraging for the future down slide of crime. Young school children are taught in school that drugs are the doorway to larger crimes. An overall decrease in drug abuse offenses of 7% shows that knowledge of drugs has helped to drop the arrest rates.

Although arrests dropped in some areas others did show an increase. Simple assaults in females under the age of 18 made an increase of a dramatic 12%. Simple assaults made a large decrease of 6% in males under the age of 18. The number of females under the age of 18 that were placed under arrest was near 630,000. The amount of youth females that are committing crimes has reached staggering levels. Although women are less likely than men to commit a violent crime, women are becoming increasingly more active in burglary, DUI, and thefts.

Analyzing racial and ethnic minorities shows which races and ethnic backgrounds will commit certain crimes statistically. Statistically white youth committed 47% of all violent crimes involving youth. Black youth are involved in 52% of all violent crime arrests. The rest of the minorities fill in the remaining percentage of violent crimes. With the population of white youth

out numbering the other minorities it is apparent that black youth commit an overwhelming number of violent crimes within our justice system.
