Case study analysis

Over the past several years, newspaper industry faced a serious threat as the audience habits have changed due to the free access to the news from all around the world throughout the websites such as; Google. Therefore; traditional news has lost value among readerships and as the amount of the newspaper reader decreases the advertising revenues drop and this is the point that newspaper industries began to lose profits. Only in the U.S, between 2008 and early 2010, eight major newspaper chains declared bankruptcy and several big city papers shut down and many reporters and editors laid off. Based on the admission by Arthur Sulzberger, Jr. editor of New York Times, one of the leading newspapers in the world “We will stop printing the New York Times sometime in the future, date TBD.” It’s easy to understand that the period of traditional print business model is over. This claim doesn’t specifically means the death of print just declares that newspaper industry has entered to a new technological era. We should keep this in mind that Even though the advent of internet is responsible for many of the difficulties that newspaper industries are facing now but that is not the only factor.(sipa.columbia, 2011, page4-5)

Technology growth and invention of electrical devices such as iPhone, iPad and kindle had a huge influence on the consumer behavior. Paperless society revolutions all around the world is also another important factor .So now; the question is that, in an era that worldwide environment is changing and all the green revolutions are arising how the newspaper industries can survive as this change is both cultural and technological and has no relation to the poor operation of the newspaper industry.
