Introduction

Social phenomena such as conflict have been analyzed at different levels and from different perspectives. Conflict perspective is usually the view of the society that essentially hypothesizes as an ordinary feature in human social life. (DEFRONZO, 2010) Conflict influences the power distribution the degree of social evolution and change. Conflict perspectives are also known as the conflict model, and it essentially gives the sociologists a clarification and enlightenment of the history of violence occurrence in the society.

Conflict perspective was initially proposed by the Karl Marx, whose many writing normally stressed on the social tensions between the classes. Karl Marx believed that the conflict defines the dynamisms of the happenings of the society and that conflict influences the crucial happenings and outcome of the history. (TAYLOR, 2003)

Iraq country possibly holds the record of having the worst conflict and violence in the modern world. The group conflict can essentially be traced to the time of Dictator Saddam Hussein who was essentially a Stalin model, during his era, group’s conflict was perpetuated by the regime. (ALI, 2007) There were assassinations, the firing squads, torture such as genital shocking, eye-gouging, and fingernail extraction among others. The estimated number of people killed due to group conflict during the Saddam regime rage from 300,000 to 1,000,000. About 800,000 were killed during the eight years of conflict in early 1980s, and more than 100,000 were killed during the first gulf war. (CORNISH, 2004)

According to the data provided by the Iraqi’s ministry of health, more than 34,453 innocent civilian were killed and more than 36,000 were wounded in the year 2006 due to conflict. (DAVID, 2009) Even though, the conflict prevalence has significantly dropped since the year 2007. However, the level of conflict and the impact on the civilian population has continued to be a grave concern in Iraq.
