Discuss the advantages of a database management approach to the file processing approach? Give examples to illustrate your answer.

Advantages include the ability of various applications to access databases that contain consolidated data. Data dependence is reduced as it serves as a software interface between databases and applications. Problems subjective to file processing, such as data integrity, lack of data integration, and data redundancy are attempted to be deciphered.

An example may include a University utilizing the same database for course registration and student financial aid systems. Data shared between the two systems would include the students financial status, student ID, and name. Therefore, if the student is financially ineligible to register for a course, both applications would be notified.

Outline the benefits and limitations of the relational database model for business applications today?

Benefits

A. The relational database model is the most widely utilized database structure.

B. The data framework is logical and clear.

C. Flexibility becomes significant over time.

Limitations

A. It is not as efficient or quick to process large amounts of business transactions as the hierarchical and network models.
