Thesis – Gay Marriages

Someone has said, “If history repeats itself, and the unexpected always happens, how incapable must Man be of learning from experience? It was not until the mid 1950”s that research about homosexuality become an open discussion. (Hooker, 2010) Prior to this research homosexuality had been condemned by Christians; they had taken a stand on biblical principles taken from the Bible as the word of God, and preached against homosexuality from the pulpit as a sin. During this part of history, most gays and lesbians remained secretly hidden in their closet.

Homosexual behavior was considered a criminal act in most state of the USA. It was called sexual deviation and mental disorder (American Psychiatric, 1950).

According to studies homosexuality blossomed under the research done by Evelyn Hooker who research sexual orientation at UCLA. The subject used didn’t seem to fit any of familiar stereotypes of a gay male. Hooker compared two groups of subject’s, one homosexual and the other heterosexual. Both groups were matched for age, intelligence quotient and education level. At the end of the study, Hooker reported that homosexual were not inherently abnormal, and that there was no deference between homosexual and heterosexual men in terms of pathology. Hooker lived long enough to see the acceptance of homosexuality as normal behavior in society.

The research done by Hooker and others (Hooker, 2010) have lead to one of the most talked about issues in America today, gay marriages, is it right or wrong? Many believe that gays should be treated equal. Well, I don’t being a child of God, it’s not Christ-like to love the same sex, the Bible says “God created Adam as man and Eve as woman” not man and man or woman and woman.
