In my community the people do not look the same as one another. We do have one similarity and that is that we all have a body with arms, legs, hands, feet, and a head. But the 2 color of our skin varies from white to black and all shades in between. Most of the people in my community however, do not look like me because they are African American. Racism does not seem to be a big issue in my neighborhood. We all get along and the only problem that may arise is when I or another of my white neighbors calls the authorities because of illegal activity. Then some of my neighbors accuse me and other white neighbors of being racist, but not all my neighbors think that way only a few who happen to be friends or family of the person that was breaking the law. I am not positive that their reaction to doing the right thing is because of skin color or not, but I honestly do think it is. I personally do not let that bother me I tell myself that it is not discrimination but anger that makes those neighbors react in a bad way toward their white neighbors. Most of my neighbors and I get along great we invite each other to dinner and other functions at our homes and really enjoy talking and doing things together. I am a member of the home owners association in my community and I have noticed how we all work together to keep our neighborhood looking nice and a safe place to live. We all have a common goal and I think that helps us to respect each other. Knowing we all want the same thing for or from the neighborhood we live in makes us friends or is a basis for friendships to grow. We all meet once a month to discuss and work on a plan of action to handle issues within the neighborhood and we find ourselves talking about off topic subjects and making jokes. We all have a good time at those meetings and even have lunch or invite each other to parties on occasion. I personally do not ask people questions about their religion, culture, or politics to me those are topics that can start...
