The “assignment” (for informational use only…do not include this in your papers):

Write a short paper on Valentine’s Day, briefly addressing its history, including its creation and some possible traditions associated with the holiday. Notice how the assignment’s requirements evolve into the paper’s titles and headings (levels I, II & III in this example). The reader knows what to expect when reading each section of the paper…without having to search for expected content.

Valentine's Day Wishes

Best wishes to all for a very happy Valentine’s Day with friends and family from the faculty and staff at University of Phoenix. (My material is “borrowed” from Wikipedia for training purposes. History of Valentine's Day

Saint Valentine’s Day, commonly shortened to Valentine’s Day is held on February 14th celebrating love and affection.

Creation of the Holy Day (Holiday)

The day is named after one or more early Christian martyrs, Saint Valentine, it was established by Pope Gelasius I in 496 AD. It was deleted from the Roman calendars by Pope Paul VI in 1969 but its observance is still permitted (Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, n.d.).

Valentine's traditions. The day’s celebrations typically include presentation of flowers, confectionary, and greeting cards (known as valentines). The day became associated with romantic love in the High Middle Ages . . .

Thoughts of love. “Memories of love—no matter how distant the scene—can once again bring us to the sweet joys of youth, just as it was then” (Pratt, 1969, p. introduction).
