REQUESTS FOR ADJOURNMENTS OF ADMISSIONS AND LICENSING HEARINGS 1. It is ACCA’s aim to dispose of cases within the minimum time, having regard to the public interest and the interests of the respondent member, firm or student. An adjournment will not normally be granted unless there is a good reason to justify delaying the hearing of the case. When a case has been referred for a hearing, you will be informed of the date on which the hearing will take place. The papers for the hearing will then be sent to you at least 21 days before the hearing date. They will be in substantially the same form as the draft papers which were provided to you for comment several weeks previously. A request for an adjournment of a hearing will be considered on its merits, but is unlikely to be granted if it is based on any of the following reasons: a. you are not ready; b. your legal representative is not ready; c. you have left it too late to seek legal representation; d. the hearing date is inconvenient for you or your legal representative. 4. If you request an adjournment before the papers have been sent out, ACCA may agree to the adjournment if there is good reason to do so. If ACCA opposes the adjournment, the Chairman of the Committee will be asked to make a decision. If you request an adjournment after the papers have been sent out, the Chairman of the relevant Committee will be asked to make a decision. ACCA will be given an opportunity to state whether it opposes the adjournment. If the Chairman does not agree to the adjournment, the Admissions and Licensing Committee will consider your request at the start of the hearing. The Chairman will be entitled to participate in the reconsideration of the request. If the Committee refuses your request, the case will proceed on that day. If the Committee grants your request, the case will be adjourned to another date.
