The MBA Decision

Q1. According to our analysis age is a significant factor in Ben's decision making, the rationale behind it that the younger he is the more time he has to recap and compensate for the MBA expenses, as well as the loss of job (opportunity cost). Other factors that should be considered in this decision making would be; his job experience at the money management firm will give him a great advantage and will be beneficial for him in pursuing the degree. Further, after graduating, he still will be able to work for another approximately 40 years till retirement to assure safe retirement. Thus, age is a key factor when evaluating Ben's decision in getting an MBA.

Q2. Ben did his research and narrowed down his options to two MBA programs (The Ritter College of Business at Wilton University and The Bradley School of Business at Mount Perry College). Both programs require full time study and neither school will allow its students to work while enrolled in the MBA program. The non quantitative factors that can affect Ben's decision to get an MBA in either school, would be having the energy and the willingness to go back to school and become a full time student for one or two years. His marital status, If he is married or planning to get married, if he has children or not, this is a great factor when you think about relocating and compromising on temporal steady income. Another aspect might be his Loss of current social status associated with the loss of current work position at the money management firm of Dewey and Louis and going back to being a student (change in the life style). The current economic condition is also another issue, the chance of getting the potential job upon graduation and possible career advancement as an “investment banker”.
