Chapter 1 Intro: The peopling of the world, prehistory- 2500 B.C.
I: Interaction with environment
a. Early humans spread out over the world and adapted to every environment they encountered
i. They learned to use natural resources as time progressed
b. Human life began in Olduvai Gorge
II: Science and Technology
a. New ideas and inventions were invented in order to survive
i. As they lived in settlements, they began to continue making new inventions and develop new technology to control the environment
b. About 1.8 million years ago early humans used to take paths up through Europe and Asia, fossils found near Cro-Magnon, Neanderthal, Uruk, Ur, Umma, Lagash, Shanidar, Jarmo, Catal Huyuk, Lascaux, and Cheddar. They often went on beyond Asia and down near the bottom of Africa
III: Economics
a. For about 3 to 4 million years humans hunted animals and gathered wild food plants
i. About 10,000 years ago they learned they could tame animals and grow crops
i. After that they started developing economies that were more complex
b. Early settlement sights were often near rivers, mostly because they need water to drink crops to water and they could probably get more animals by a watering place.

a. 4000000 B.C. first hominids appear in Africa
b. 2500000 B.C. Paleolithic Age begins
c. 1600000 B.C. Homo erectus appears
d. 200000 B.C. Neanderthals appear
e. 40000 B.C. Cro-Magnons emerge
f. 8000 B.C. Neolithic Age begins; first agriculture takes place
g. 3000 B.C. Bronze Age wee established in Mesopotamia
h. 2600 B.C. City of Ur flourishes in Sumer
