Discontinuation of 40-Ride Xpress Pass

Abstract

The Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) has been mandated by the Governor to cut three percent of its budget. To honor this order, GRTA has decided to discontinue the sale of one xpress pass.

The Director of Accounting has given the task of research and decision to me, Jonathan Williams. I will use convenience sampling to prove my hypothesis that the sale of the 40-ridepass should be discontinued. The sample size is 72. It consists of three years of sales for 20-ride and 40-ride xpress passes.

Most citizens of the Atlanta metropolitan area all have a common issue that they dread everyday of the week. It is the dreadful battle of traffic congestion. Traffic congestion has become such awareness in Georgia that in 1999 the General Assembly created the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA).

One of GRTA’s missions is to improve Georgia’s mobility. Due to Georgia’s economic struggles, the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority has been mandated by the Governor to review its budget and cut another three percent of GRTA’s budget. GRTA has decided to review the sale of its xpress passes (20- ride and 40- ride) for the past three years.

As an employee for GRTA, I have been given the task to perform the research to conclude what express pass, if any, should be discontinued. Originally, my statement to the Director of Accounting was to eliminate the 40-ride xpress pass. I strongly believe the 40-ride xpress pass should be eliminated because fewer customers are purchasing the pass.

The 20-ride and 40-ride passes expire only when the customer has used all rides on the pass. Their expiration date does not depend upon how many days the xpresspass has been activated. The 20-ride and 40-ride passes give the customermore authority and flexibility....
