Small College has its small-town charm that attracts the few students who enjoy the interpersonal aspects, but it also has one severe disadvantage; its alumni base is small and usually do not go into career fields that yields tremendous wealth, so it cannot use it as leverage for its expansion plans. What Small College has, is a great plan to use social media to jump start its expansion, as explained by Small College president Lilliput. What better individual to ask for donations other than the new godfather of the social networks, Mark Zuckerberg.

Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, and the world’s youngest self-made billionaire, is a prime candidate for aggressive solicitation. As we have learned, he is everything social media – Zuckerberg dedicates his life to connecting people, information, and ideas freely around the world. He has donated and supported many social media projects, even ones that are rival to his creation, such as Diaspora, an NYU founded anti-facebook project. Also, Zuckerberg is one of the youngest participants of the Bill Gates and Warren Buffet initiative, where billionaires contribute their excess wealth to charity. He has pledged to donate majority of his wealth to charity, either during his lifetime or after his death. “People wait until late in their career to give back. But why wait when there is so much to be done? With a generation of younger folks who have thrived on the success of their companies, there is a big opportunity for many of us to give back earlier in our lifetime and see the impact of our philanthropic efforts,” said Zuckerberg in a statement. Zuckerberg also has a history of donating to schools in need, as he demonstrated by donating $100 million to the Newark public school system, which he never attended.
