Appendix B

Part I

Define the following terms:

Part II

Select three of the identity categories below and name or describe at least 3 related stereotypes for each:

· Race

· Ethnicity

· Religion

· Gender

· Sexual orientation

· Age

· Disability

Part III

Answer each question in 100 to 150 words related to those stereotypes:

· What are the positive aspects of the stereotypes, if any?

All Christians are good people is a positive aspect of being stereotyped. I also believe that people from the South have that Southern Hospitality that some people come accustomed to because we are all friendly and nice.

· What are the negative aspects of stereotypes?

There are many negative aspects of stereotypes. Just because one black person doesn’t graduate, does not mean that all black people haven’t gotten their high school diploma.

Answer each question in 150 to 250 words related to those stereotypes:

· What is the difference between stereotyping and prejudice? Use examples to illustrate the differences.

Stereotyping is when a person takes one person and puts them in a group of others. Just because one person does something, does not mean that every person of that race does it.

Being prejudice is judging a book by its cover. Just because someone is black doesn’t mean that they are uneducated.

· What is the relationship between stereotyping and prejudice?

The relationship is that each one is judging a book by its cover!

· What can be done to prevent prejudice from occurring?

Prejudice can’t be prevented but I feel that it is very important to get to know someone for who they are and not what they look like.
