What is abortion? Abortion is the deliberate termination of a pregnancy through removal of the embryo or fetus. It is possible to terminate a pregnancy at any time from conception to birth, but 88% of abortions are performed in the first trimester. Abortion has become a very big personal and political concern for years. Many people argue why abortions should be legal, why abortions are wrong, and the regions argument that states abortion is murder. There is no doubt abortion is the most controversial issue in the world today. Abortion has become an intense debate and has left people divided into two groups. There is the term pro-choice in favor of abortion and then there is the pro-life which are those who are against abortion.

Abortion was introduced at a very early age in society. The practice of abortion was widespread in ancient times as a method of birth control. Later it was restricted or forbidden by most religions, but it was not considered an offense in secular law until 19th century. Legislative action in the 21st century has permitted the termination of unwanted pregnancies for medical, social or private reasons. Mainly because of the high maternal death rate associated with illegal abortions, a rapidly expanding world pollution and dangerous pregnancy. Out of every 200 women who have illegal abortions 52 end up in the hospital and of those 52, who end up in the hospital 30 die.
