Chapter 1

Introduction

The Internet is one of the greatest recent advancement in the world of information technology and has become a useful instrument that has fostered the process of making the world a global village. It is the source of information that plays a significant role in the society especially among students.

Internet is an electronic communications network that connects computer networks and organizational computer facilities around the world (Merriam-Webster, 2012). This only means that anywhere in the world as long as there is internet connection, anyone can access information that circulates in their own interests. There is no need to walk-in to the original source for someone that needs necessary information. One can imagine how easy to save and retrieve data in a minimum amount of time.

The Internet has existed as a mass medium for more than 15 years and has become an important part of everyday life for a lot of people. There are now 1.5 billion Internet users around the world (Internet World Stats, 2008) who are spending more and more time online. The issue is not only about minutes and hours people spent online on reading, listening or viewing. It is also about content. Information, news, music and film can be found on the Internet where users can read newspapers and watch TV for free whenever they want.

All schools aims to be successful and well known. But to achieve their goals, a school must have a wide variety of strategic plan to gain popularity and be known by people. Using the web as one of the strategic plan that will provide a new way to reach the right audience by creating another way to communicate to a wider community which they will share information that the audience get they need in a short amount of time.
