Week Four Learning Team C Reflection

This week for Team C’s Learning Team Reflection, our group was to the objectives from Week Three in class. The objectives we were to discuss were to differentiate between groups and teams, evaluate the challenges of communicating in groups and teams, and to describe effective collaboration and conflict management within groups and teams. The team seemed to be together in our understanding of the objectives. Everyone added a unique perspective on these objectives, which helped us learn from each other in our discussion.

The first objective of our discussion was to differentiate between groups and teams. Groups are formed by two or more people to accomplish a set of objectives (Robins, 2011). Random people make up a group. Groups can be for instance in an organization men, women, or workers over 65. The organizational structure, as in a formal group or informal group, defines a group. Two or more people with specific goals and duties comprise a team. In a team, each person has a duty to contribute to the project. . Teams assembled to act interdependent to achieve objectives in a manner that the sum of the input is greater than the individual effort. When the project comes to together it meets the objective. Companies have both teams and groups.

The second objective was to evaluate the challenges of communicating in groups and teams. Some of the challenges of communicating in groups and teams are dealing with the individuals’ perception of the members, leaders, organization, along with personality clashes, difference in values, job satisfaction, self-esteem and conflicts. Some more challenges are filtering, which means changing information to make the perception more favorable, selective perception, and information overload.
