Introduction: Curriculum dissemination as a phase

According to Carl (2009:111) various curriculum development initiatives are often unsuccessful because dissemination has not come on it own. Often in literature, dissemination is regarded synonymously with implementation, while they should in fact be regarded as two separate but linked phases. Dissemination is very critical because it is during the dissemination stage that the envisioned change is created and the users of the curriculum are prepared for it. The level of empowerment determines the level of dissemination.

Effective curriculum development implies change and renewal. It is integral that each person in the teaching organisation be fully involved and fully informed with the view of taking the best decisions thus ensuring optimal development of the curriculum. This will also make educators who are at the shop floor are as implementers fully conversant about the curriculum thus ready implement the envisaged change and renewal.
