Obesity
A nationally growing problem in the United States. The United States is
the number one country in the world that has a problem with obesity.
1 in every 10 people in the United States are obese. The definition of
obesity is having to much body fat. It is not the same as being
overweight, because you can be overweight by muscle, bones, or water
as from having too much body fat. Taking in more calories than you
can burn will put a greater risk at obesity. Obesity can also be caused
by eating more than your body needs, drinking to much alcohol, and
not enough exercise. Many people blame themselves when they lose
weight and gain it back, but today we now know that in some cases, it
is actually biology. Some people who live in the same place and eat the
same thing become obese while others do not. Our bodies are very
complex and diverse, your body is designed to keep your weight at a
healthy level. The times you eat, what you eat, and how much you eat
when you are child affect how you will eat as an adult. We are also
surrounded by factors that makes us overeat and not able to stay
active. For example; more people work desk jobs instead of more
active job like in the past, people have less free time to go and
exercise and many people do not have time to plan and make healthy
meals. Some people have medical reasons why they are over weight,
including, under active thyroid gland. Medicines such as birth control,
antidepressants, and antipsychotic can cause weight gain as well.
Although they’re other factors too, quitting smoking, stress, and not
sleeping well. It can also factor on gender. Women gain weight with
menopause, as much as 12-15 pounds. They also gain weight when
pregnant and may not be able to lose the baby weight. Being over
