In this essay today I’m going to answer some questions regarding White Privilege. First I will tell you what White Privilege means. I will then take a stand on an article written by Peggy McIntosh where she talks about herself discovering how being white has these privileges that we are not even aware for the most part. Third I will tell you whether there are any privileges associated with being an African American or a Latino. I will also talk to you about some of the similarities between African Americans and Latino’s in regards to their experiences, customs, or attributes. Finally I will discuss with you how I think society in the US would be if whites were not the predominate group. First off what is White Privilege?

White privilege refers to the rights or immunities granted as a benefit or favor for being white. As the text states this advantage exist unconsciously meaning that often the White people that are using these advantages do not realize they are doing so [ (Schaefer, 2012) ]. In other words privilege exists because one group has something of value because they belong to this group; the other groups do not nor will they ever have the opportunity to have the same valuable (University of). The privileged group has not done anything significant to earn the extra privilege nor have they done anything wrong to deserve it [ (Schaefer, 2012) ]. In doing research for this paper I came across this quote that I would like to share with you all today. White Privilege in my opinion is just the same as any other form of discrimination. Most of us have no idea how this White Privilege works even though we practice most everyday and until we can come to understand it we will not be able to fully address the issue (University of).
