BTEC Dance additional

Week One – Wednesday 12/9/12

The first dance certificate lesson I had was taught by Mrs H, the two hours were getting to know each other in the class, for our capabilities to be shown through a quick workshop of corner to corner techniques for the teacher’s benefit to find out mainly which students have had dance experience or none at all. We also did trust exercises, getting in partners and balancing you on their back; falling into their arms and lifting there tensed body by their ankles from the floor.

What went well -

The work out for our warm up, stretching our muscles and keeping ourselves warm was hard work but very capable of doing so. My posture was supported correctly throughout with feet stood shoulder width apart, keeping head up. Also being able to trust the partner you were put with helped a great deal with becoming more comfortable with the people around you and finding out how strong your body is.

What needs improvements -

My corner work, working on my left foot first from the opposite corner needs more work on, since I’m right footed. Also keeping my arms up out straight in a balanced position when doing leg kicks and leaps from corner to corner, the majority of the first lesson my arms were either crooked or my hands weren’t straight.

Week One – Thursday 13/9/12

The second dance lesson was with Miss K for the first time, the three hours were spent on the teacher getting to know our capability and techniques with dance, we also did corner to corner work. After doing a group warm up, we were taught a dance routine in a contemporary style using our arms to swing out into the side of us and pushing it back away, the lesson was mainly about keeping our feet grounded into the floor keeping our knees bent and swinging, keeping low.

What went well -

Being able to remember and pick the choreography well was good, so I was able to practise the dance at home. Also learning to bend the knees more often in dance to swing felt...
