On November 21, 1969 an invention was created that changed everyones life from that point on. The invention that I am referring to is the invention of the internet. When the internet was originally called Arpanet during development. It was created at the US department of defense by the Advanced Research Projects agency. The first hub was put in place to connect the Imp at UCLA and the Sanford Research Institute. The first message sent was “lo”, although the message was supposed to say log-in but the system crashed before it could all be sent. It wasn’t until March of 1972 that the first email program was written by Ray Tomlinson. This is also when @ was decided to be used because of it’s “at” meaning. In 1981 time Berners-Lee wrote a program called Enquire within. This program was the predecessor to what is now called the World Wide Web. Today many people use programs created by Microsoft. In fact to write this paper I am using a program made by Microsoft. Well in 1981 is when they came out with their first program called dos. I am sure many of the kids these days have never heard of dos, but I remember when I was younger briefly hearing about it, but not really much about it. 1981 is also the first time that IBM first created their first personal computer. Now I am sure that pretty much anyone who uses the internet uses an anti-virus system. Well it wasn’t until 1989 that McAfee associates founded Anti-virus software for free. Now the world today pretty much functions on wireless internet. If it wasn’t for wireless internet many of the things we do depend on couldn’t happen. I know I for one am someone who depends on different places having Wi-Fi such as Starbucks and McDonalds. As of 2007 about...
