Leadership Styles

Upon returning from the Compliance Officers Conference I have decided to re-evaluate ECG’s internal policies, as well as standards for outside communications. The internal and external policies require a streamline position which I am setting out to accomplish. The review of the current policies has broaden my understanding of what is required for every department to rise to the new challenges that the company will be facing in the upcoming days, due to the acquisition of the IPO.

The new challenge of the upcoming acquisition requires new leadership styles, in order for ECG to smoothly complete this transformation. The transformation will also require a new direction in ECG’s leadership styles. I have taken it upon myself to narrow down some of leadership styles, which could possibly benefit the company as we move forward.

A leadership style which ECG is currently instituting is the trait theory. This theory is based on the belief that great leaders are born, not made. I have met some of our great leaders, but I am not so sure they were born, as compared to the in-depth training provided by ECG. ECG’s training is impeccable and has produced unwavering leaders, but the trait leadership style is a style of the past. This particular style is rooted in the belief that a person, who has a strong hand shake, is tall and of a certain culture is better suited for the position. The trait leadership style is not a realistic style of leadership for today’s business world, especially with the acquisition of the IPO. This style of leadership will not translate over to our international employees and their style of leadership.

The style of leadership that is implemented must take into consideration the international clients and employees. The leadership style has to be based on more than just the appearance of a leader, which is not as important, as to how the leader will lead and direct the troops. While observing our new...
