1. What do you think of the company guiding principles? Describe how the company’s guiding principles would influence how a barista at a local Starbucks store does his or her job. How these principle would influence how one of the company s top executives does his or her job.

We think the guiding principles describe the mission and purpose of Starbucks existence and it is not just selling coffee and earning benefits, Starbucks gives the chance to their consumer to share a coffee in a place that is not work or their homes where they can enjoy quality coffee and a sense of community life, as their mission says, “We aren’t in the coffee business, serving people. We’re in the people business, serving coffee”. Starbuck also do all it can to encourage their employee to do the best work, treating them as partners in business of the company so they feel represented in the firm. Actually Howard Schultz describes his employees as “the heart and soul of our success.”

By creating this strong culture, employees will feel as an important part of the organisation, and not only that, but customers will believe that Starbucks is doing a good job not only serving them coffee but also to the environment around them.

The six guiding principles of Starbucks puts a lot of emphasizes on customer satisfaction and treating their partners (employees) well and also carrying out social actions fulfilling their corporate social responsibility. As in the text says, thy want to be respected not only for maximising profits, but also for how they treat their employees.

In my opinion this principles should be applied for any companies that want to success

A barista should be influenced by this guiding principles and take personally the work they do, as if Starbucks is a family business because they should feel like an important piece in the engine that makes Starbucks work.
