Thank the Gods, it is Party Time

Every 1000 years the gang gets together. They discuss old times, they discuss new times. This time it will be different. They normally meet close to home, but Hawaii is perfect this time of year. Ganga has sent out the invites to tell the gang when they are meeting. Ganga comes from the Ganges River. Her people are Hindus. Bo is from India and hangs out near Bodhi trees; his people are named after him and are called Buddhists. Huang He is from the Yellow River, his people are sometimes called Daoists, and some are called Confucians. Fuji-san is from Mt. Fuji, and his people are known as Shintos. They are not gods, per se. At least not in the way that a westerner would think a god is. The party is in four days.

Four Days Later

It is a beautiful evening on the island of Kaho’olawe. They have a pig in the ground, and the humans are making the food, such as poi, long rice, and lomi lomi. There are drinks, mai-tais, daiquiris, and pina-coladas. There is music, dancers, and humans here for the party as well.

Ganga arrives first, grabs a mai-tai and walks over to the table to sit down and watch the dancers. Her mind is racing over the changes that have happened to her people over the last thousand years. She is excited for the rest of the gang to get there so they can all catch up.

Before she is even done with her first drink the rest of the gang shows up. Stopping at the bar they all grab drinks and head to the head table. Ganga likes this party; it is the one-time every 1000 years that they are on equal standing. It is also the one-time that they each forego the rule of not eating meat. “I wonder who thought up that stupid rule,”...
