Our immersion in Theo 141 is an extraordinary privilege for us students to be aware of the lifestyle of the poor. We exist together in this world. We donate clothes and money in foundations without even knowing what the people they are helping really needs. We didn’t know because we did not try to reach out to them. It’s really great that we had this opportunity for our eyes to be open to the reality that’s happening in real life and not just what we see in televisions. We will be reminded the next time we would try to help them that they need a lot more than just material things. They need our support and understanding which should be done in deeds and not in goods. We live caring only about our future. Our goals are set on graduating in college, getting a good job, and having a better life. How much of our time are spent thinking how can we extend our talents and skills to the people who are also creations of God? I thought I was being selfish all the time. We are all equally blessed by God just not in the same way. What the others lack may be filled by the other. We should not be greedy and keep everything to ourselves because what we have may be not really meant for us. Maybe it was supposed to be shared to others. Spending time with people really helps to break barriers and build a connection. The immersion is an efficient tool against ignorance of the society.
