Outsider Mittens
An original Susan B. Anderson pattern for Spud & Chloë
Sizes: Child’s small (child’s large/woman’s small, woman’s medium/large)
To fit a hand circumference of 6 (7, 8) inches
Note: The length of the hand and the length of the thumb can be made to fit any
length hand.
Yarn: Outer (65% superwash wool, 35# organic cotton; 60 yards/100 grams)
Woman’s medium/large in any style: 2 skeins
Child’s large/Woman’s small in Ribbed Cuff and Short Bobble Cuff: 1 skein
Child’s large/Woman’s small in Extended Bobble Cuff: 2 skeins
Child’s small size in all styles: 1 skein

Needles: US size 13 double‐pointed needles, set of four, OR size to obtain gauge
Materials:
2 stitch markers
Ruler or tape measure
Scissors
Yarn needle
Scrap yarn
Abbreviations:
mb make bobble by knitting into the front, back and front again of the stitch, turn,
purl 3 stitches, turn, knit 3 stitches, do not turn, pass the second and third stitches
over and off the right needle.
k knit
p purl
k2tog knit two stitches together
m1 make one by lifting the bar between the stitches onto the left needle, knit the
bar through the back loop

Gauge: 2 ½ stitches per inch in stockinette stitch
Mitten pattern:
Make both the right and left mitten the same.
All styles:
Cast on 15 (18, 21) stitches, placing 5 (6, 7) stitches on each of 3 double‐pointed
needles. Join to work in the round being careful not to twist the stitches. Place a
stitch marker on the first stitch.
Cuff Options:
Extended Bobble Cuff:
Rnd 1: (k2, p1) repeat to the end of the round
