In this paper I will discuss the role of private security and its function within the criminal justice system. How criminal justice and private security are so closely linked together.

The private security field within the criminal justice system is to investigate and reveal the truth. Then they are to prove the violation of the Law the systems duty at that point is to prosecute punish the offenders accordingly. The function of the private security is to keep their eyes on criminal activity. One valued characteristic is in criminal justice system is honesty. Private security officers are called into court to give a testimony. It is of most important that when these officers give an account for what happened that they remember they are under oath. There are very serious punishments for lying while under oath. Within the private security function they are given a variety of tasks like site and mobile patrol, special events security, loss prevention functions and private investigations. These components are crucial to the safety of our country. The industry has many responsibilities such as the protection of sensitive corporate information as well as the U.S. Companies they depend upon private security to safeguard the employees and the property.

Private security has a motto which is to detect, deter, observe, and report. They do have some limitations one being that they do not have the same exact role as police officers.
