Four Functions of Management

Management is a skill that everyone does not have. To become a superior manager, he or she must understand the dynamics of the four functions. He or she can learn each of these behaviors. Each of these functions gets demonstrated in the work world today.

As anyone can see planning is at the top of the chart of the four functions. In starting a business the first thing everybody asks for is a business plan. The purpose is to give everyone an ideal where the business is heading and the expectations to accomplish the pending objectives. Each year the leaders of the business hold an all staff meeting to discuss his or her expectations of the business for the current year. The employees will notice the objectives posted up throughout the business as a reminder. This action is a reminder to everyone daily. The leaders do not want people to lose sight of the plan.

Organization is so important for the business and the employees. This skill rates high by leaders because he or she wants to know how well he or she is organized in his or her daily duties. When projects are assigned, the person whom the director believes can accomplish the task without finding it is necessary to reduce his or her workload usually is the chosen one. The goal of the business is to hire fewer people but use those in the business to his or her full potential. At the end of the day, it is about producing more while increasing the business’s bottom-line.

According to Smith, “Leadership empowers- meaning a leader inspires confidence and self-esteem” (p. 6). As it states in the quote, it is imperative that the leader inspire other to want to show what he or she can do for the business.
