Obesity is Not Just About Food

Obese Free with After-School Activities

Fattening foods is not the only leading cause of childhood obesity. Obesity is also caused by the lack of school nutrition and less opportunities for physical after school activities. The only activities available to most kids are television and computers. Parents and schools should encourage more after school physical activities to provide healthier future for their youth. Many healthy after school programs are being introduced nationwide. After-school Programs such as competitive rowing on the Charles River and applying to college, learning and working within different sports, and a self-defense class with music incorporated are being introduced as a remedy to the problem. These programs are very promising but cannot exist without a lack of guidance and funding. It takes a strong stance by parents and school to incorporate these programs to make their kids’ childhood healthier.

Obesity is not just a result of eating junk funds but also by not exercising and eating properly. Obesity is a major health problem in America in today’s youth because of ever expanding forms of technology such as the computer, Ipads, Ipods, and video gaming systems. Glazer’s suggestions are good programs that can help to decrease the rate of obesity in children. These programs provide healthy and knowledgeable learning activities as well. With exercising each program also offers a way for the children to plan for their future as well as inspire them to do more in life. The First Lady is making a move to end obesity in children with her program, Let’s Move. The program aims to promote healthy eating and exercising. She has gotten the backing from major athletic programs as well as kid-oriented network channels to run ads from the program. Currently the money to fund these programs can be found through government funds and private organizations.
