Part 1- Lumen and absorb teams and CCE

1) a) Although Lumen and Absorb teams were very similar in structure they had many differences. The absorb team was lacking in intrinsic motivation and daily average productivity, whereas Lumen was excelling on these two parameters. Lumen team was very happy with their team leader and had good team work and open communication contributing to a great result. Whereas Absorb was frustrated with their team leader ( 1-2 day diary entry), they were facing discouragements which were killing their intrinsic motivation in spite of being a little bit higher on the average intrinsic trait as compare to Lumen team. Lumen team had a good leader who encourages them and adds meaning to their day to day work by making their task significant and identifiable. This characteristic is not exhibited in absorb team. Team members of Lumen felt that their task is significant and they have a task identity, this gave meaning to their work and their existence on the team. On the other hand Absorb had no direction in the team. Further Lumen team members are very autonomous and they take responsibility of their work. Whereas in absorb team; Chip interferes in each and every work of the team members. Dave reported in day 1-2 that chip is very nitpicky and he kept him for long while reviewing his presentation. This makes team member think that the team leader is an outsider and not one of them. Good team work in lumen resulted in resolving problem quickly and making customer happy and satisfied, whereas in absorb, lack of leadership led the team into a trap where they have to pretend to peruse the customer even if they know that this is not the right prospect.

The team framework of Absorb team is also not robust. Chip was not communicating with the team members effectively. There was insufficient communication between Chip and the senior analyst Helen about Dave’s leaving and reassignment of the work within team. Further When chip offered the new...
