The topic of my case scenario is Teenage Pregnancy. Tiffany B. Anderson, a 16 year-old single woman, came to the local health department seeking assistance and food. She was living with her parents in an upscale neighborhood, but her disobedient behavior, drug use and wanting to be like here friends, is what got her kicked out of her parents home. She is temporarily sharing living expensive with a friend in a one bedroom apartment, but she wants her own apartment. She works part-time, which is maybe three to five days a week at a convenience store for minimum wages. Tiffany was pregnant with her first baby and uncertain of her due date, but she believed she was six to seven months pregnant. She wasn’t receiving medical care for her pregnancy, because she had no medical insurance. Tiffany didn’t know how to apply for medical or financial assistant, but had serious financial difficultities such as: running low on food and on money for a decent place to stay. Tiffany was experiencing nausea and vomiting for about four months, and weight lost during this time. Her current weight was 9 pounds more than her reported pre-pregnancy weight; her pre-pregnancy weight was suitable for her height. Tiffany is a methamphetamine user and she wasn’t concerned about the effects that the drugs might have on her unborn child. She stated several of her friends were using drugs while they were pregnant and their babies came out health. The clinic nurse spent time talking to Tiffany discussing pregnancy, nutrition, fetal development, and the importance of prenatal care. The nurse helped Tiffany complete two referrals: financial/health insurance support and low-cost/free community clinic where she could start prenatal care regardless of her health insurance status.
