Microsoft Access Proposal

Here at Paper Plates, the way we keep track of our data is a bit dated. We use Microsoft® Excel®. For anyone that is familiar with this data management system, you know it is a great tool to make spreadsheets with. We use this system to keep track of all personnel data. Everyone is responsible for getting your required data and giving it to Judy who then inputs on to an Excel® spreadsheet. We do this because we do not want every to have open access to these data files. If you did not know, when an Excel® file is locked, only a few people has the ability to make changes to that file and everyone can only look at it as a “read only” file. Imagine a system that we could use, where everyone will have the ability to make changes or input data their own data. We can use this collaborative tool that can take our preexisting data and bring all together. It uses Microsoft’s Jet Database Engine and an easy to use interface (Microsoft, 2013).

This better, more efficient, and user friendly data management system is called, Microsoft® Access®. With Access® we will not need to waste company time going through dozens of spreadsheet just to find how many products were sold, or how many materials we have ordered, or having to find employee time sheets. This tool will gather and place relevant data to give us enhanced reports, make analyzing data easier, and allow us to view and edit some things from home or anywhere their an internet connection.

Some of the great features that Access® provides are: custom templates, web database, utilize either the internet or intranet depending on how our company grows and what hardware we choose to use (Microsoft, 2013). This will add a whole new level of functionality to preexisting database. Datasheets are easier to create because we will no longer have to predefine the value before creating one. Just a simple...
