Unit 7 Music Assignment

The music that I associate with childhood would be many different songs like the Alphabet song, I think of the FA-la-la-la-la la-la-la-la, from the Surf’s on Saturday morning cartoons. I grew up listing to oldies but goodies on my parent’s radio in the car and playing the 45’s records. When I hear any of these songs I have to smile. I am reminded daily as my own children listen to some of the same music on the television and the same cartoons along with the those good old folk rhymes we all love like the Itsy Bitsy Spider, Old McDonald, Twinkle- Twinkle Little Star along with some new ones.

As I got older I remember listening to bands like Air Supply, Journey, and Led Zeppelin. My mom would have me play her records or eight tracks prior to getting a cassette deck, while she was cleaning up the house. I always remember her dancing and making cleaning look like it was so fun! (I should have known better!) I always have music playing when I am cleaning now too. My children are also the same way; I take it that this is something that will pass on generations to come. What music do you associate with adolescence and was this music a way to fit in or rebel?

The music that I associate with my adolescence is the punk/rock music from the 1980’s and 90’s. I loved all of it! I would listen to any of bands like Poison, Def Leopard, Kiss, Black Flag, Pennywise; I could go on and on! I also liked to listen to pop too. I went through a phase where I loved Debbie Gibson, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper and different artists like them I think that has to do with being a young boy growing up haha. To this day I can still listen to any of these bands and it will take me back to my carefree days of being a little punk with friends or being in high school.
