According to Bateman and Snell, management is the process of working with people and recourses to accomplish organizational goals. Bateman and Snell also state that leadership is setting a new direction or vision for a group to achieve a certain goal (Bateman & Snell, 2009). Leadership combined with management sets a new direction and manages the resources to achieve goals. In an organization both components have to be present for the organization to succeed successfully.

Leadership and management are terms that can be used interchangeably, but they are not the same. A leader can be anyone who uses interpersonal skills to influence others to accomplish a goal. A manager is an individual who is employed by an organization, and is responsible and accountable for accomplishing goals of the organization. Both leaders and managers in an organization have differences and similarities in roles and responsibilities but their approaches are definitely different .Leadership and management are two of the most important aspects that make up and organization. Leadership and management will always be needed in any type of position or organization that requires a group or a job that needs to be performed. The success of an organization will depend on leadership and management. Many times people confuse leadership with management because they have some similarities, but are different in their own way. In an organization both components have to be present to effectively run the organization. The success of an organization is determined by the leaders or managers that it chooses to run the organization. According to Bateman and Snell, outstanding leaders combine good strategic substance and effective interpersonal process to formulate and implement strategies that produce results and sustainable competitive advantages (Bateman & Snell, 2009).
