Since introducing the world’s first foam-soled, soft, washable slipper in 1947, our product focus and operating model have evolved beyond our footwear roots to serve the ever-changing accessories marketplace.
That evolution was never more apparent than during fiscal 2011. We literally transformed our business from a one-dimensional, modestgrowth slipper company into a multi-dimensional, growing provider of functional, fashionable accessory products with the acquisitions of two successful accessories businesses— Foot Petals, Inc. of Long Beach, California, and Baggallini, Inc. of Portland, Oregon. We have a reputation as a leader in the accessories business thanks to our excellence in: design and development; sourcing quality and value; consumer brand marketing; category management; supply chain and logistics; and relationship building. For retailers, our leadership means proven products and service that meets or beats sales and profit objectives. For consumers, it means superior quality, value and function in great solution-oriented products. Based upon our consolidated net earnings, the five years ending with fiscal 2011 were the most profitable five-year period in RG Barry’s 64-year history. Revenues during this time rose by more than 23%, and we provided increasing returns to our shareholders in the form of growing equity and cash dividends.
