The Power of Dreams, Passion and Human Spirit

The book “ Don Quixote de la Mancha “ written by the Spanish write Miguel de Cervantes

Saavedra is one of world’s top best sellers and has been translated into various languages . It

has been an inspiration for many leaders and have several plays written over it. The book

focuses on power of dreams and passion can have on a man and how a man “Alonso Quixano”

imagining himself as a Knight travels around the world and does things which he feels right

without any fear. It also lines differences between views of an ordinary man and a man with a

reason.

Short Synopsis of the Story

Alonso Quixano is a man living in Spanish town and is ferocious reader of the great story of

Knights. He gets inspired by the multifarious glamorous lives of the knights, their sense of

adventure, their courage and above all self-proclaimed mission to right all the wrong doings in

the world. He imagining himself as a Knight leaves his house, business and goes out for an

adventure and to correct the wrong-doings of the world and names himself “ Don Quixote de la

Mancha “. He also takes along with himself a Squire “Sancho Panza” as all knights do. Sancho is

a normal person who comes with him just for the material benefits he can have if he made his

trip. He wanted to be a governor of a State and was hoping that he may become governor of a

state on this trip. Don Quixote does quite a lot of adventures from fighting a windmill, freeing

up prisoners to fighting a hungry lion. He does all the adventures keeping himself as a knight

and never back down from any challenge and always felt his duty to fight against the wrong. His

was in a dream where if he does not do these things, he would not be Knight and would have

taken down the pride of Knights too with himself. This self proclaimed Knightship in dreams

arose a passion in him so huge that he would give all of himself for any cause. The trip
