Background

Nitish had done his B.Tech and M.tech from IIT Madras in Computer Science. After that he joined Infosys Bangalore where he worked for two years as a senior programmer. Dissatisfied with the endless programming hours, he decided to do an MBA in Finance to enhance his future career prospects. He joined XLRI Jamshedpur. After completion of his degree he worked in a multinational consultancy firm for a salary of 2 Lakh p.a., which was pretty less than what he earned at Infosys. He worked in this company for two years and gained a valuable experience. He was perceived as a happy-go-lucky, cheerful and friendly person by his colleagues. But after two years he began to feel that his learning had stopped, and also he was also thinking of move out of Jamshedpur. He contacted his friends, classmates from IIT and XLRI, for job opportunities in their firms. Arvind, Nitish’s friend from IIT responded to his mail regarding job opportunity at his company Solutions Unlimited.

Arvind told Nitish that Solutions Unlimited had decided to realign itself as an IT Consultancy firm from a mere solution provider. Mr. Kapoor, Director Marketing, interviewed Nitish and expressed his enthusiasm and eagerness to see him as a colleague. Nitish was further interviewed by Venkat, from the HR department offering him a package of 2.55 lakhs p.a. at level of Developer 3. Nitish was not satisfied with this salary and he demanded atleast 4 lakhs p.a. Venkat’s boss, Meena who looked over the HR Department then raised the salary to 3.1 lakhs p.a. which was again refused by Nitish.

Later Mr. Kapoor intervened and made sure Nitish got hired at his desired package thereby hurting Meena’s ego. All these issues together led to an uncomfortable relationship between Nitish and Meena, which further added on to increasing dissatisfaction of Nitish from the company.

Nitish was also denied the projects which he thought were appropriate according to his profile, because of  Meena’s intervention....
